Miscellaneous items of Randall as Governor of Wisconsin including correspondence in 1861 to Edwin Morgan concerning a Civil War appointment of a Wisconsin soldier; a letter to Benjamin Curtis in 1869 about a financial matter and a note of acknowledgment; and a commission appointing Asaph Whittlesey special messenger to obtain statements of votes for Douglas, La Pointe, and Ashland counties at the general election of 1860.

Alexander Williams Randall (1819-1872) was educated as a lawyer. He served as Republican governor of Wisconsin, 1857-1861, and was U.S. Postmaster-general, 1866-1869. He appears to have been executor of the will of Elizabeth Gamble Wirt, wife of William Wirt (1772-1834). Elizabeth Gamble Wirt, daughter of William and Elizabeth Wirt, married Admiral Louis Malesherbes Goldsborough who was a prominent figure in the U.S. Navy during the Civil War.
